About Danny Ching

At age 37, Danny Ching has squarely secured his spot as the greatest paddle sports athlete in Southern California, and he is recognized worldwide as an expert waterman. Danny is the son of Al Ching, the founder and head coach of southern California's famed Lanakila Outrigger Canoe Club.

Danny started paddle racing early, entering and winning his first grom race, and by age 15 he was racing with Lanakila's elite men's team. Fast forward to 2002 and Danny was well on his way to multiple state, national, and international outrigger racing titles. In 2009, Danny rode SUPs massive rise in popularity, racing and winning around the world on a stand-up board including the 2009 Hennessy USA SUP Championship.

Not content to dominate in outrigger and SUP paddling, Danny has notched national titles in prone, surf ski, sprint kayak, sprint canoe, V1, and the dragon boat team World Championships.

Danny's coaching career is equally impressive having training the Lanikila men's OC6 team to US Championships three times, the Lanakila women's OC6 crew to a Molokai World Championship win, and guiding OC1 phenom Ryland Hart to a 19U Molokai Solo World Championship.

Danny is co-founder of 404 Basecamp, manufacturers of 404 stand up paddle boards, and Hippo Stick paddles.
